Tell us how the two of you met?
What is the “What’s On Your Back?” program all
about?
We met in possibly the most Hollywood way, on the a
set of a reality show.
What’s on Your Back is a grassroots program
dedicated to informing youth of the impact their
clothing has on the world. It is designed as a school
assembly that educates kids about the damages the
textile industry has on the environment, and the
social impact it has on workers in developing
countries all while having fun and providing future
alternatives to current methods. Right now we are
partnering with a non-profit called True Connection in
Los Angeles to bring our school assembly to Compton
and a t risk neighborhoods. From there we hope to
establish ourselves enough to create our own nonprofit program that travels across the country.
What made you want to start a clothing line
together?
We realized early on that not only did we enjoy one
another’s company, but we admired one another,
moreover we had learned from the show that we
made great business partners. We had established
trust, understood one another’s aesthetic and we both
wanted to create art that would be make the world
safer and better. We had the same vision and there
was no denying that the world, even if it was on the
set of a reality tv show, had brought us together for a
purpose.
What are the roles you each play in the creation of
a piece?
It’s really a 50/50 collaboration. We do all the
designing side by side and nothing goes unless we
both agree. It’s truly a marriage of both of our
aesthetics.
What are your individual roles in the running of
the company?
From designing to art direction to picking out the
right hardware for a vegetable tanned leather jacket,
we do everything side by side. There isn’t one role
that one of us plays that the other doesn’t. We equally
represent the company, after all we are Naz&Court.
Who is Naz & Courts’ target audience, what
segment of society are you designing the clothes
for?
Environmentally conscious, ethically inclined,
fashionable adults of all ages. We strive to create
classic pieces that men and woman at any age could
wear. Our 100% wool mens suit would look equally
as good on a young gentleman as an older one and we
believe the same goes for everything we design.
