XII. Day Fourteen…A Distant Drum?
(Wherein our correspondent expresses gratitude
at having thus far been spared any significant misadventure
and is dismayed to encounter one final portent)
Gary Johnson at Old Town, Rethymno, Crete September 21 at 1:28pm ·
As I come close to wrapping up my coverage of the many newsworthy events in this beautiful
and beleaguered nation, I must admit that we have been very lucky indeed to have managed
somehow to stay one step ahead of chaos at almost every turn...I think we've also managed to
shake the Aussies, the Frenchies, and even that guy from Jersey...Now we're just kicking back
for the last few days of our journey in this delightful seaside village...(Uh-oh, I hear big guns
in the distance...yeah, it could be thunder, but either way, I knew I wasn't going to get out of
here unscathed....)
• Gary Johnson: I know, I know...or is it just the beating of my heart?
• Annette: Coming from a Jersey girl, I think the guy from the Garden State could have caused
more chaos than the politics.
• Gary Johnson: [Later] Hey! It's raining! I didn't pay for that!
XIII. Day Fifteen…Adieu!
(Wherein our correspondent, at the conclusion of a memorable sojourn,
makes a surprising admission and bids farewell
to a troubled, though remarkably benign, nation)
Gary Johnson in Greece September 22 at 1:01pm ·
Okay, I have to admit it... I could happily spend the rest of my life in Greece. Unfortunately,
we leave tomorrow. But I can understand why all those gods decided to hang their hats here.
With all their bickering, they knew a good thing when they saw it...
• Elke: έχουν ένα ασφαλές ταξίδι. της επιστροφής
• Gary Johnson: Yeah, exactly.
• Craig: Gary, how about stopping in Italy for a couple of weeks on your way home?
• Sue: Safe roads home you two Thanks for sharing your world travels The Gods are smiling on
you for enlightening others
• Gary Johnson: Thanks, Sue...the next day and a half may prove to be the least enjoyable of our
journey. And Craig...don't I wish....
• Craig: Gary, there is excellent ferry service from Patras to Brindisi.
• Gary Johnson: Ah...but I have promises to keep...and miles to go before I sleep....
