Bam! There it is. John is all smiles, “I’m looking for a very pretty woman…” Gloria jumps in, “That’s me.” John returns the smile and again he sees the sheer beauty of this woman, “She must be tall, semi-athletic build, dark hair and…” “Stop it. You’re describing me. Get out of here.” Gloria waves her hand at John. John reaches into his bag, “Here’s my card.” Gloria reads the card and looks up at John in envy. “This must be nice having a Hollywood job. You get to sit around and chill like this all the time?” “Oh no, it’s not easy at all. I’m working now. I’m serious. I’m looking for a woman… to play, ah… wow, a prostitute in an Indie film.” John didn’t realize telling Gloria this would cause him to fumble at the mouth but Gloria is with him. “I can play a prostitute, a whore? I don’t know… a prostitute, yeah I could do that.” “I didn’t know there is a difference between the two.” “To me there is. A whore sounds cheap. Prostitute sounds professional.” They laugh at Gloria’s analogy. “Seriously, are you really doing this?” “Yes. I’m for real. Would you be interested?” “Are you fucking kidding me? Hell yes. What do I have to do?” Gloria is sitting up in her seat listening to every word that comes from John mouth. “Okay. Do you have a car?” “No.” Gloria answers sadly. “Hmm. Okay, I need you to call my office tomorrow at one o’clock if you have any problems. But if you can be at the address on the card by 3pm, that would be great.” “I can be in Century City easily. I have a friend who lives on Overland and Olympic. That’s really close. So I’ll be there.” Gloria is all smiles and shakes John’s hand again. “You are a starlet, you know that? You have that thing called “it”. Everyone isn’t born with it. Some of us are luckier than others and I feel you are one of the lucky ones.” “Oh thank you. You are really making my day John.” “You do have some headshots?” “Oh yeah, I have some with me now. Want to see them?” “Sure.” Gloria hands John the picture and he almost fell out of the chair. Hands down, one of the most beautiful women he’s seen in his 31 years of life and just as he imagined. Seeing her sitting across from him with no make up and looking at her in this photo, looks like he’s looking at success. 55 THE CONE - I SSUE #5 - SUMMER 2015
