POSITIVE BUSINESS

Business against Poverty member profile : Rob Beale Ltd

Business against Poverty ( BaP ) is a local community of business people who care about the issues of poverty and ethical standards . They are taking action through their charity People against Poverty , based in Trowbridge . Each edition of TBE we profile one of their members to find out more about them . This edition we profile Rob Beale Ltd .
This edition we interviewed Rob Beale , owner of Salisbury-based firm , Rob Beale Ltd , specialists in liquid waste disposal and special waste handling for both the domestic and commercial markets .
Rob is a platinum member of Business against Poverty and on top of his annual sponsorship contribution has recently donated £ 1,000 to the BaP Tractor Appeal .
The tractor is needed to complete the charity ’ s micro-farm project in Romania , designed to provide sustainable living for those most in need . As the owner of a small holding , Rob knows how important it is to have the tools to get the job done and to achieve the highest yield .
What motivates you ? First and foremost my friends and family , without their support I wouldn ’ t be able to grow our business as it ’ s very much a family concern . Then adding new products and services always gives me the motivation to carry on , bringing a fresh new outlook to the business .
What is your business philosophy ?
Treat others the same way as you would like to be treated . Pay and be paid .
Who do you admire the most ?
I admire lots of people , but in business it would have to be Sir Richard Branson . Why ? For the way he has built the Virgin brand and succeeded in so many different markets .
What ’ s your advice to anyone thinking of joining Business against Poverty ?
As Nike say , just do it ! It ’ s a wonderful community of like-minded business people who strive to improve their businesses , but at the same time trying to improve the
lives of those less fortunate . I believe in the Biblical principle of sowing and reaping , the more you give , the more you will receive .

TRUE HEROES RACING NEEDS YOU !

True Heroes Racing is the UK ’ s first and only competitive motorcycle race team for injured Service personnel .
Founded in 2012 by Royal Navy Warrant Officer Phil Spencer , as a way of offering opportunities for wounded , injured or sick UK Service personnel to regain a sense of focus and direction through direct involvement in motorcycle racing , as well as proving to themselves and the wider audience that the life changing injuries they have suffered don ’ t have to be life limiting .
It all began for the not-for-profit organisation at Castle Combe Circuit , where Lance Corporal Murray Hambro , of the Second Royal Tank Regiment ( 2RTR ), competed on a Triumph Daytona 675R motorcycle for the very first time . An extraordinary achievement for a double below knee amputee , after he was injured and lost both his legs in an IED explosion in Afghanistan in 2010 . Murray had only completed his medical rehabilitation program at Headley Court a few months prior to taking to the race track .
True Heroes Racing is not all about the rider . The concept of the team is to offer opportunities for injured Service personnel to get involved in all aspects of a thriving motorsport team . From the start , even at the team ’ s debut race meeting the rider was supported by other injured personnel .
Founder and team manager Phil said : “ Motorsport is a fast , frenetic and pressurised environment , not too dissimilar to the battlefield . It is also a world many Service personnel would not have considered open to them even when they were fully able bodied , so to compete at the highest levels possible is
8 THE BUSINESS EXCHANGE 2017 a real challenge they can get their teeth into and gives them a new focus . To do it on 2 wheels as well provides specific challenges , but shows the world that these guys and girls can do anything that their able bodied counterparts can do .”
The True Heroes Racing team currently consists of five riders and it costs £ 25- £ 30k per rider per year to compete at such a top level . For the last five years , the team have been upping their game each year , competing in the Triumph Triple Challenge which was a lead support race at the world renowned British Superbike Championships . In 2016 they were the largest single team competing in the Ducati TriOptions Cup , again at the British Superbike Championships .
They are currently appealing for support for coming season and would love to chat to any businesses interested in supporting them . They offer a number of sponsorship packages , including VIP Hospitality .
Dan Barfoot , operations manager for CMD Recruitment has supported the team for the last five years . He said : “ It ’ s so rewarding to support such a passionate team , who are striving hard to achieve their goals against the odds . Developing people is what we do as a recruiter and our investment in sponsoring True Heroes Racing , helps Service people see a purpose in life that they may have struggled to see before .”
