PLATTE The Mission of the West Platte School District is to develop students with a healthy intellectual, physical, social and emotional balance that will enable them to become life long learners and productive citizens in a changing society. FIRST TRACK MEET AT THE NEW COMPLEX West Platte held it’s annual Junior High track meet, on March 31st. This is the first event to be held at the new track complex! With 48 students out for track this year, the event was successful despite the cool temperatures! The track meet was a relay meet which means all the events were done as teams of boys and girls so there were no individual results, only team results. There were 9 different schools in attendance and West Platte finished 4th in team scoring, only 5 points out of second place. The rest of the stadium is still under construction, so fencing enclosed the rest of the area. Construction last summer and fall concentrated on finishing the track and fields so it would be ready for track season this year. West Platte scoring was led by the shot put team A, featuring Jasper Basel who had a throw of 41’6”, and the high jump team A, featuring a jump of 4’10” by Drake Stelljes, both winning their respective events. Several other teams finished in third place in their events, including triple jump team A, which had Quinn O’Malley reach 29 feet, and our 4 x 800 team A led by Faith Stevens running a 2:40 in her first event of the season. With the new complex in place, it looks like the team is set for a successful season! Coach Mike Lowe, Junior High Track Coach TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT UPDATE Winter/Spring has been an exciting time in the technology department! We have completed our deployment of Chromebooks for 9th and 10th grades, so students in grades 1-3, 9-12 are now equipped with these new devices. We have also finished installing a new storage system for the district; this will allow increased file storage as well as ensure proper backups are taking place. A 3-D printer was also purchased for use in our science labs, so over the next few months, we hope to create some exciting items! Don’t forget to sign up for your online payment through PowerSchool! Once this is completed, you can then make online payments towards your student’s lunch balance!
