Next, lay your fabric out on a table and cut a rectangle to be as long as your first measurement (your hips) and as wide as your second measurement (length) You will want to cut both fabric pieces this way.

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, red is everywhere. Personally, I choose to opt for a deeper, more burgundy hue since it feels more romantic and sophisticated to me, but finding the perfect fitting wine-colored skirt can often be a challenge. I know I can’t be alone, which is why this month I’m sharing a super-simple tutorial to make your own custom-fit miniskirt with no pattern, no fancy supplies, and no design experience…. And finish it in under an hour.
Trust me on this. It’s going to be fun.
First, you’ll need a few things:
1 yard of fabric you want to show (I chose this soft, semi-sheer knit)
1 yard of fabric lining (a complimentary solid color fabric that is not see-through)
A basic sewing machine
Measuring Tape
Sewing Pins
Matching thread
Black 2” Elastic
To begin, first you are going to measure the widest point of your hips and jot the number down. Then, measure from your waist to your knee or as far as you’d like your skirt to be. Add 1” to this number.
