n March 26, 2014, the Labor & Employment Law
Section, in conjunction with Pro Bono Partnership of
Atlanta, hosted a “nuts and bolts” employment law
seminar to help prepare local practitioners for volunteer
opportunities with PBPA. Dara DeHaven, Shareholder
at Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C., and
Brian Sutherland, Associate at The Buckley Law Firm LLC,
gave engaging and informative presentations regarding
general employment laws affecting non-profit organizations,
guidance on the creation or review of employee handbooks,
proper compensation of employees and volunteers under
the Fair Labor Standards Act and classification of workers as
either independent contractors or employees. In addition,
Rachel Spears, Executiv
