section update Women in the Profession Section By Heather Miller Carlock Copeland & Stair, LLP [email protected] T he Women in the Profession Section had a productive and fun 2013-2014 year. We saw an increase in membership and involvement from our Section. The year began with a successful CLE, hosted at JAMS, where panelists discussed tips for successful mediations. WIP appreciates the continued support of JAMS. WIP renewed its commitment to Forever Family, an organization which supports children of incarcerated parents. WIP board members attended monthly dinners with the children, where members assisted with homework and prepared healthy meals. We look forward to our continued involvement with this great organization. WIP members enjoyed a lovely holiday party, hosted once again at the home of Scott and The Hon. Susan Edlein. Members and guests donated gift cards as they entered the party, which were given to Forever Family to assist in providing holiday gifts for the children involved in that program. January. The program was a success, despite the incoming snowstorm. Attendees were able to hear and participate in all presentations, before leaving and entering the traffic nightmare of “Snowpocalypse 2014.” Section members worked throughout the year with Atlanta Legal Aid’s Cancer Legal Initiative. Members conducted monthly intake for patients at both Grady and DeKalb Medical. These cancer patients were interviewed to determine if Atlanta Legal Aid’s initiative can offer legal assistance with matters such as Medicare/Medicaid, housing, wills and estates and advanced directives.
