Kate Robinson?British I will have no more desires 1990 Edition 2/6 Bronze (on wooden base) 30 x 23 x 25 cm Guide Price £2,500 “ Born in Warwickshire, Kate obtained a 1st class BA (Hons) in Fine Art at Glasgow School of Art in 1989 and completed her PhD at Glasgow University in 2002. Her practice as a sculptor has always involved working with the spoken and written word. The context of her artwork ranges from galleries to parks and public squares. It often takes the form of modelling, carving or casting, in a process of thinking, feeling and instinct. Amongst her awards is a 2004 Guardian Modern Painters Prize for Writing on Art. An Associate of the Royal British Society of Sculptors, her work is represented in collections across the UK and internationally. Recent public art commissions include Woman Man Sun Moon (2011) overlooking the M8 between Edinburgh and Glasgow and For Brass I Will Bring Gold (2012) for the University of Glasgow Memorial Chapel. Kate was recently selected as Appointed Artist for a new Town Hall development in Johnstone, West Scotland, scheduled for completion in 2015. Kate’s grandmother was a Jewish refugee from Vienna. I’m so glad to be able to support the invaluable work of CARA by donating to their 80th Anniversary Auction, especially now in the light of the persecutions in Syria. I salute the benefactor who will, I hope, on the 5th December 2013 purchase I Will Have No More Desires for a generous sum. Transforming this sculpture into the gold of hard cash for CARA, may help to enable human transformations. Now that will be a result! ” kate robinson 38 The Art of Resistance?
