Ineke Vanderwal?Dutch Silent as in Unspoken 2012 Signed (on rear) Unframed Oil on canvas 100 x 70 cm Guide Price £600 “ Ineke was born in Ophemert, The Netherlands. From 1972 to the end of 2000 she lived and worked in the UK. She has exhibited extensively in both public and private galleries. Her work is hung in the New Hall Art sCollection (Cambridge) and in the Southwest Minnesota State University, Marshall, U.S.A, Museum of Modern Art, as well as in many private collections. I came to the UK in the early 1970s as a very young student. My academic career came to an abrupt stand-still with the unplanned birth of my daughter. I later resumed studies through evening classes. My personal experience and determination to get myself an academic education pales significantly against the 80-year record of academic support offered by CARA. I feel privileged as an artist to be able to contribute to its work and believe passionately in the need for education for everyone, regardless of gender, wherever, and under any and all circumstances. The title of this work Silent as in Unspoken seems rather apt to me given the purpose for which it will help to raise funds. Inherent to the painting is the silent voice quietly waiting, as yet unformed and unarticulated. Un-spoken. Emerging from beneath layers of paint is a slight figure, visible and apparent in a suggestive light. ineke vanderwal 122 The Art of Resistance? Defending Academic Freedom ” Lot 37
