Now, if you’ve never been to a bull riding event this is your chance to view it
firsthand. This ain’t any practice run,
it’s a PROFESSIONAL competition.
The four-footed beasts these cowboys
will be trying to score points on will
be top bucking bulls that are the up
and coming stars of professional bull
riding. Many of the bulls that have
performed in the Kingsville NPBR
in the past have been featured bucking bulls on television. Like those big
events you see taking place in Las Vegas. This is some SERIOUS bull!
A new feature this year is the South
Texas Bull Fight Challenge. Protection and Freestyle bullfighting competition is making bull ridings even more
exciting for fans and athletes alike. Bullfighters have no ropes, spurs or devices of
any kind in which to battle the bull. They
are armed with an inner courage. The
bullfighter relies on his athletic abilities,
precision timing and the ability to think
and make decisions in milliseconds. In
a freestyle bullfight, the bullfighter goes
one-on-one against a bull for 70 seconds.
The bullfighter is judged on his willingness to expose himself to risk and on his
aggressiveness. His objective is to stay as
close as he can to the bull throughout the
fight.
Bullfighters have elevated the sport by
employing spectacular maneuvers, such
as jumping over a charging bull. Like
the bull riders, the bullfighters will score
higher when the bull is more aggressive.
Bullfight bulls are bred to be smaller,
quicker and more agile than those used
in bull riding. Several World Champion
Bullfighters are gearing up for this challenge. Each one will draw a fighting bull
and show off his skills for points. The
average winner of the two-day event will
walk away with all the money
16
vendors, bucking machine and a calf
scramble for the kids.
The NPBR is one of the premier bull riding tours in the country and has been
entertaining crowds since established in
2000. They have been coming
