To help them extend writing above the sentence level and produce a coherent text following a model. OBJECTIVES At the end of the lesson students are expected to:  use the imperative for giving instructions  understand the sequence of actions and be able to combine sentences using coordinating conjunction and  understand how cohesive devises can signal a text’s coherence  integrate reading and listening with writing.  use note-taking in order to use this information for another purpose Students’ background: There are 20 students in the class, all aged 12. They have a background of about 250 teaching hours of English at school. However, students are of a mixed ability as there are some of them who also attend afternoon classes in private schools. The students have been taught vocabulary related to food items in a preceding lesson. Anticipated problems: Students have not yet mastered writing techniques even in their mother tongue and this deprives them of transferring relevant knowledge to the foreign language. 57
