integrate reading with writing in order to get information which is needed for
the completion of another task
2.2.3. General information
2.2.3.1. The lesson
The writing task asked students to write a reply letter to a friend of theirs who
has written to ask for some information. In order for the children to get the
information their friend needed they had to read a brochure and note down the details
they needed. The lesson (see lesson plan in appendix IV, p.xiii) provides students with
model texts and language input before they are asked to write. There are also a
number of while writing activities which help students adopt a process approach in
writing which gives priority to the communication of the message and leaves surface
matters such as spelling and punctuation for the final stage.
2.2.4. Description and justification
The lesson (see lesson plan, appendix IV) is organized in pre-, while-, and
post-writing activities.
2.2.4.1. Pre-writing activities

students input in the form of model texts and vocabulary practice. More speci
