Activity procedure
Justification
Students are given some
language functions as
prompts and are asked to
remember what language
can be used in such cases.
The relevant language is
written on the space
provided on the students’
sheets so that they can
refer to it later during their
discussion.
Students are given a list of
ten destinations. After they
choose individually the
three which they favour
most, they form pairs in
order to convince their
partner adopt the same
choices. After a discussion
about the pros and cons of
each destination, the pair
agrees to three common
destinations. The same
process
continues
in
groups of four and after a
consensus
is
reached
within the group, the
discussion
proceeds
involving the whole class.
The activity finishes when
the whole class can reach a
consensus.
As
the
discussions can become
trivial, a time limit is
imposed in each step of
the activity. Students who
do not reach a consensus
are not able to proceed to
the next step of the
activity. This makes them
willing to trade off and
compromise.
This is a brainstorming
activity. With the help
of
some
prompts
students are asked to
recall
passive
knowledge stored in
their LTM in order to
use it creatively.
The activity relates
clearly to the students’
interests and it is
something similar to
what they usually do in
classroom.
This
provides them with
motivation and with a
topic which they can
talk about.
The activity is based on
an opinion gap and
students have to find
arguments to convince
their fellow students
adopt their choices.
sights referred and the
price will help students
find some arguments in
case they do not know
how to start.There is a
process from pair to
whole class activity
which helps students
prepare
themselves
before they are exposed
to the whole class. The
limitations which are
imposed
provide
students with a number
of challenges. Finally,
the activity has a clear
outcome which is the
common
suggestion
which the class has to
reach to.
