To help them understand the transactional function of monologue and to take meaning from it even though they do not understand every word. To use the information they have acquired for a communicative purpose. OBJECTIVES At the end of the lesson students will be able to:  relate their personal experiences to new knowledge so that they can comprehend easier.  feel more comfortable with natural spoken language even if they do not understand everything.  listen for general meaning  listen for detail  understand the sequence of events in a narrative  integrate listening with speaking and writing  understand the differences between spoken and written language Students’ background: There are 19 students in the class. They are all aged 12.It is a mixed ability class with some children attending afternoon classes and others who do not. There are many who underachieve and look indifferent. Students have been taught the past tense. Anticipated problems: Listening to long streams of live language is something new to the children. In addition they are not used to listening to monologues as their textbook usually contains short dialogues .They usually try to understand every word so they ask for a repetition when they miss something or they do not understand it. 25
