Leisure Date night ideas for the busy educator By PreSha Barnes "Let us always meet each other with a smile, for the smile is the beginning of love.” - Mother Teresa A fter a hectic day of work, many of us go home with a deep desire to simply bury ourselves in bed and sleep. We bring home our lesson plans, resources and get caught up with house chores. We sometimes forget to greet our biggest supporters, our significant other, with a smile. They listen with attentive kindness, as we off-load all of the day’s ‘drama’ and stressful moments. Even, if some of us are not guilty of this daily, there are days when we forget to celebrate our loved ones. Going out on a date gets pushed to the background. It’s time to change this. Here are a few fun ideas to help you spice up your date night. Dinner and a movie This is a traditional date night activity, but let me suggest a few new things to make it more enjoyable. Make dinner reservations at your favourite restaurant. Make it special by requesting pastries or fruits that you both enjoy to be ready upon your arrival. Take it a step further by having a greeting card tucked away with a special note and a selection of your loved one’s choice beverages. After dinner, go catch a movie. Select a movie that you both will enjoy! During the movie make sure to snuggle up, rub his or her arm, this helps to build closeness. Late night cruising Spending time cruising provides a wonderful and refreshing opportunity to relax and enjoy each other’s company. You can book a late night boat cruise or you can hop into your car and go cruising alongside the beach, or winding up and down mountains. Bring a picnic basket and your camera to create lasting memories. Resort and spa getaway Let’s face it sometimes you need to get away, but not too far! The UAE is rich with luxurious and affordable hotels where you can indulge in a mini vacation. Plan ahead. You can decide if you want to be catered to or if you would prefer a suite with a kitchen, so you can cook for each other. Use the time to do fun activities and games that you love. Remember pamper yourselves with massages and spa treatments. P.S. Don’t talk about work! Dance the night away! This can be done at home or a local venue. There are always live performances places around the city. Check local listings for performance dates and times. Get there early to get good seating. When the music begins, hit the dance floor and enjoy. If you prefer to dance at home, create a playlist and take each other for a twirl around your living room or wherever your feet take you! Double-date There are always friends who are due for a date night as well. If you have children get a sitter, and have a game night. Use a variety of board games. You can also create your own games to play. Bring a dish or call for delivery. The objective of this evening is to have fun with friends. A little bit of laughter won’t hurt! These are only a few ideas. Date night can be planned in advance or it can happen spontaneously. Don’t miss out on this special time with your loved one. Make it happen. Relax and enjoy each other’s company! After The Bell | | Jan - Feb 2016 | 41
