Open Minds A ccording to the website of the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Centre for Cultural Understanding (SMCCU): SMCCU is located at House 26, Al Mussallah Road, Al Fahidi District, Bur Dubai. “Dubai is a uniquely modern and cosmopolitan city and the United Arab Emirates is home for families from all over the world, each with their own distinctive culture. Expatriates and UAE nationals are neighbours; however, they can also be strangers. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, saw the need to reach out and educate expatriates in the traditions and customs of the UAE. His vision led to the creation of The Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding (SMCCU) in 1998.” The SMCCU is easily one of the best places for expatriates and visitors to receive authentic information on the cultural practices and traditions of the UAE in a comfortable, entertaining and welcoming environment that is reminiscent of the country’s rich hospitality. A number of influential world leaders, international celebrities and members of the UAE government have all been hosted at the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Centre for Cultural Understanding.
