A lot of my cards are inspired by things
I want to say to the people that I care
about. Sometimes they come out a little
awkward or funny, but they are honest,
and they seem to resonate with a lot of
people who seem to be trying to say the
same thing.
“All of my art starts out hand-drawn on paper with a black
illustration pen. Then I scan and add color digitally. Once it’s
refined and printed, I’m always excited to see the colorful
finished piece that started in my sketchbook.”
What’s been your most popular item or line to date?
My most popular item is my “I want to kiss your face so
hard” greeting card. Through tracking my shop stats,
I found that a lot of my products are found by people
searching for “long distance relationship cards” and I
think the “kiss your face” card fits perfectly for that type
of situation.
Are there any moments that stand out for you over the
years?
One of my cards was recently included in a BuzzFeed list for “Cards for Unromantic”
people. Last year I did take a lot of time to define what my own success would look
like, and had specifically decided that being in a BuzzFeed list would be pretty cool
someday. It’s one of my favorite websites, and was just something that has always
made me happy. The feeling of achieving a goal I had set,
even if it only meant something to me, was really special.
How do you keep up with demand?
Lots and lots of coffee, and surrounding myself with a
small, but very important, support system of family and
friends. They are really good at cheering me on when I
most need it.
