How I

TRAVEL with LUKE DALE-ROBERTS

High-flying chef Luke Dale-Roberts travels super simple – the opposite of how he likes his flavours . Voted numerous times as South Africa ’ s top chef and ranked one of the best of the world , Dale-Roberts is flown around the globe for his special brand of experimental gastronomy . But with three cutting-edge restaurants in Cape Town ( The Test Kitchen , The Pot Luck Club , The Shortmarket Club ) and the new Luke Dale-Roberts X Saxon at The Saxon Hotel in Johannesburg , the chef is most often a frequent flyer on the Cape Town-Johannesburg route .

If it ’ s overnight , I travel with a small suitcase that fits as hand luggage , but if it ’ s just for the day this is how I go , with my POLO LAPTOP BAG only . I keep my MacBook in there , wallet , passport and boarding pass – all that important stuff . I like this particular Polo laptop bag because it ’ s good quality leather , hard wearing and it ’ s a good size . And it ’ s part of a hand luggage set , so it clips onto my carry-on suitcase when I take that . It ’ s easy . I usually also pop a recharger into the bag , in case I run out of power at any time . And of course I never leave home without my iPhone . I have a constant list of ideas for the restaurants I ’ m working on , and I ’ m also constantly updating my different recipes on Notes . I don ’ t travel with much else – no big gadgets , no books – I keep it pretty simple .
