Critical Incident Man- agement,” will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, at the Hennepin County Library- Plymouth, 15700 36th Ave. N. Now in its 10th year, Plymouth READS is a program by Friends of the Plymouth Library. The program seeks to spark conversation, build community and fos- ter learning and discovery in Plymouth by rallying readers around a single book. In this year’s selection, “Marathon,” by author Brian Freeman, uses the 2013 Bos- ton Marathon bombing as the template for a similar plot, set in Duluth. While the FBI and local police department race to identify the culprit, social media fuels the worst instincts of the citizenry. The story relies heavily on both social media and an eyewitness statement. The “What If ” program will feature Plymouth Chief Deputy Erik Fadden, who will address questions surrounding the law enforcement angle in the book. What is social media’s impact on law enforcement in Plymouth? Is social me- dia a welcome help in crime fi ghting or is there a rush to judgment that makes police work more diffi cult? What about eyewitness accounts? How reliable are they? How does social media affect those witness statements? Attention seekers sometimes seem willing to say or do al- most anything to get noticed.
