Trojan boys return their
top skiers for next season

With an entire State Meet lineup re-
turning next season, the Wayzata High
boys Nordic skiing team has high aspi-
rations.
Coach Larry Myers watched the Tro-
jans place two skiers in the top 20 dur-
ing state competition at Giant’s Ridge in
Biwabik earlier this month. Junior James
Schneider brought home 10th place and
sophomore Colin Freed placed 20th. Ju-
nior Thomas Golin (34th) overall is an-
other key returnee for next season.
“James skied well at state,” Myers said.
“He was a member of our state-champi-
onship team in 2018. Colin skied really
well at state and shows a lot of potential.”
All but two of the boys who fi nished
ahead of Schneider will graduate from
high school this spring. The two remain-
ing are Henry Snider of Mounds Park
Academy (sixth in state) and Cooper
Lennox of Mora (third in state).
One of the up and coming skiers for
Wayzata is Daniel McCollor, who com-
peted in every varsity race as an eighth-
grader this winter.
Myers believes Schneider will be ready
to be in the mix for the state title next
season. Despite a rich history in Nordic
skiing, Wayzata has never had a state
boys champion.
Mara McCollor from the Wayzata
High girls Nordic team won her second
straight state championship this winter.
Myers talked about McCollor’s second
championship, which he had predicted
midway through the season.
“Mara is talented and very focused,”
Myers said. “And she doesn’t like to lose.
We’ll see how she progresses from here on
out. I believe she has a bright future in the
sport. She has certainly been a great in-
fl uence on the Wayzata skiing program.”
During the high school season, Mc-
Collor didn’t lose a race. She won all
four of her Lake Conference events and
missed another one when she was away
