The Armstrong/Cooper boys
hockey team started the season
with just seven seniors on its
40-player roster, and that group
of seniors played a key role for
the Wings (13-13 overall).
The season might have ended
in a 5-1 loss to third-seeded Way-
zata in the 6AA quarterfi nals,
but Armstrong/Cooper did have
its share of success this winter.
Forwards Drew Eid and Jo-
nah Jangula led co-op in points.
Eid fi nished with 18 goals and
26 assists (43 points), and Jan-
gula had 17 goals and 22 assists
(39 points).
Defenders Bjorn Jensen, Sam
Schreiner and Carter Lucas
were not only strong blue liners
but were also key to the offense,
as well. Jensen fi nished with 3
goals and 18 assists (21 points),
and Lucas had two goals and
six assists (8 points). Schreiner
fi nished with a goal and seven
assists (8 points).
Goalie Colin Spellman al-
lowed under four goals a game
and fi nished 7-7 with 339 saves
on 390 shots on goal.
Forward Spencer Volkert
didn’t play as many minutes,
but he did have an assist in 16
games.
Together, these seniors helped
bring along a underclassmen-
laden roster, with 20 of the 40
players on varsity being sopho-
mores.
And while Eid and Jangula
led the offense all year, junior
forwards Ben Anderson and
Jack Campion weren’t that far
behind. Anderson (14 goals, 18
assists) and Jack Campion (12
goals, 18 assists) are both ex-
pected back to lead the offense
next season.
Junior defender Joe Campion
is expected to be one of the top
blue liners back on the team
next season. He fi nished with
two goals and 10 assists (12
points).
Also expected back are for-
wards junior Parker Collins (six
goals, one assist), junior Nicho-
las Haugen (6 assists), sopho-
more Teddy Campion (goal,
5 assists), sophomore Noah
Weisjahn (two goals, 3 assists),
junior Matt Campion (3 goals,
2 assists), sophomore Evan
Dimich (goal, 3 assists),
Junior defenders Jack Steinke
(assist), Evan Axell (goal, 3 as-
sists) and Mike Berns (3 assists)
are also among those expected
back.
Sophomore Owen Reeve was
Spellman’s back-up at goalie,
and he is expected back after
fi nishing 6-5 with 248 saves on
284 shots on goal with a 3.27
goals against average.
Wayzata 5, Wings 1
Wayzata jumped out to a 3-0
lead on Feb. 21 at Plymouth Ice
Arena, but Eid scored under fi ve
minutes into the second period
to cut that defi cit to two.
The Wings’ offense couldn’t
cut into the lead further, howev-
er. The Trojans (13-9-2) scored
twice in the third period to put
the game away.
Armstrong/Cooper was limit-
ed to 22 shots on goal in the loss.
Spellman fi nished with 32
saves for the Wings.

Park Center’s Kellen Kopp in the
consolation bracket before falling
in an 8-0 major decision to STMA’s
Jonah Hayes in the consolation semi-

Senior Joe Jamison (heavyweight),

Parker Cary and Cayden Homme.
Cael Swensen, the
coach’s son, is up two
weight classes after wres-
tling 106 at state the past
two years.
“The 120-pound weight
class is loaded with tal-
ent,” coach Swensen said.
“I think there are eight
who have either qualifi ed
for state or been a place
winner.”
Although state is new for Homme, Wong and
Lonnquist, coach Swensen
feels they will handle the
pressure.
“They have all wrestled
in national events, so I am
sure they’ll be ready,” Sw-
ensen predicted.
p.m. Friday, March 1, and
the fi nals will commence
at 6 p.m. Saturday, March
2.
Edina’s fi rst-year head
coach Scott Johnson likes
his team’s chances.
“We qualifi ed 21 indi-
vidual swimming entries,
two diving entries and all three relays,” Johnson said
following the Section 6AA
Meet. “That is probably
a high for our program
overall in terms of quali-
fi ers.”
The Hornets have qual-
ity as well as quantity with
Peter Larson and Andrew
Gray in starring roles.
