FIGHTING AGAINST A
DEAD-END JOB
I
n my school days, I was very active in
sports. I was the team captain for my
year and the junior sports leader to represent the school. I excelled in every sporting
event - swimming, basketball & hockey etc.
Unfortunately I left half way through 5th year
so didn’t achieve any beneficial qualifications;
apart from physical education I was very disengaged at school.
At 15 I felt the only option for me was to get paid
work. I became an apprentice hairdresser, where I
stayed for 4 years until I was qualified, but it just
wasn’t the job for me. From there on I had a few
different jobs from bar work to working with people
with autism. I ended up feeling very down as all my

jobs were just dead ends, nowhere for me to go, and
that’s not what I wanted from life.
