AYR CAMPUS HIGHLIGHTS
CROWDFUNDING
CONNECT COFFEE MORNING
Student Gemma Hosie is
fundraising for a friend with
a recent cancer diagnosis to
make lasting memories for
her children
Connect students organised
an Easter coffee morning
and raffle to raise money
for Holybush House.
“My friend has been diagnosed
with terminal cancer, I want
to raise the money needed to
send her family to places they
could never afford to go and
to do things that would create
unforgettable and everlasting
memories.
“If I can make some of
these trips a reality, I
know my friend would
have another day of
smiling.”
“There is nothing more heartbreaking than watching a friend
go through this, knowing that
her kids are going to live a life
without her. Knowing she’s not
going to be there to give them
holidays, support, experiences. If
I can make some of these trips
a reality for them, I know my
friend would have another day
of smiling, another unforgettable
memory for her kids to share.
“The money will be spent on trips
to places like Go Ape and indoor
sky diving. Ultimately I would
love to send them to Disneyland,
but even a trip to Blackpool, or
London, Spain, anywhere! Give
them a holiday they normally
couldn’t afford. Once the money
has been raised, I can tell my
friend she has options now, and
whatever ones she decides to take,
we will post pictures of the smiles
you generous people have created
for a family that need these
moments.”
THE STUDENT VOICE: EDITION 4
The event was a great success
and very well attended. It
followed a Burns lunch in
January which also raised
money for Holybush House.
The students put in a
tremendous amount of effort.
They baked delicious cakes,
created table arrangements,
ceiling and wall decorations and
served guests.
The raffle prizes were fantastic
Easter baskets, also put
together by the students, using
items donated by staff and by
Wilkinsons. The College would
like to thank Wilkinsons for
their continued support with
such events.
Location, Location, Location!
Don’t forget that the Student Association will be
moving temporarily (along with Student Services and
the LRC) to the ground floor of the Riverside building.
STUDENT PRESIDENT WINS
NUS INSPIRATION AWARD
Emma also helped scoop
the LGBT Campaign
of the Year award for the
#JoinTheConversation campaign
over LGBT History Month, which
she was instrumental in organising
alongside the College’s Equality
and Inclusion team. More on that
later.
Congratulations to Emma
Hall (don’t worry this isn’t
Emma writing this section…)
on winning the NUS
Scotland’s LGBT (Lesbian,
Gay, Bisexual, Transgender)
Inspirational Student of the
Year award.
Emma Hall was recognised for the
work she does to support LGBT
students at the College in her role
as Student President for Positive
Well-being at the Ayr campus.
She is also a Further Education
representative on the NUS UK
LGBT Committee.
Well done once again on what is a
great achievement.
