“ Everyone knows your name and looks out for you. ” community – a family who you can have fun with and who are here to support you. Everyone knows your name and looks out for you. I don’t think you would get that in a bigger campus. I’ve got everything I need here and I am looking forward to my future studying HND and then going to university to do a degree. I would like a job teaching because I enjoy encouraging other people to get fit. I am doing a Fatburn Extreme Instructor course at my local gym right now and that is giving me experience of instructing others. I will get the equivalent of SVQ Level 2 Gym Instructor on this course. There are lots of opportunities for me to get a job in this area. It’s important to have a stable income and I feel I can achieve that with this career. I am the class rep on my course and I like to make sure everyone in the class is okay and we are staying together as a team. When someone is off I make sure I keep in touch with them and help them get caught up with work. So what else have I been up to at Irvine? We are kept busy with work in the community. We do a lot of volunteering with Active schools. I enjoyed the time I helped out in Largs with wheelchair basketball, blind football at a disability awareness day and a children’s swimming gala. We climbed Goatfell and raised money for the Ayrshire Hospice. THE STUDENT VOICE SPRING/SUMMER 2017 25
