STUDYING AT THE
Skills Centre of Excellence

Before I came to college I
was working behind a desk
in a bookies. I was bored and
miserable and glad to leave for a
more exciting future.
I wanted to get into HNC Fitness,
Health and Exercise course,
but I did not have the entry
qualifications. I did the Sports and
Fitness Level 6 course first, which
was 90% sports and that gave me
what I needed to get into HNC
course.
I am doing the HNC course right
now and I absolutely love it!
My favourite part is learning all
about nutrition. I have not used
a microwave since I started the
course! I eat really healthily and I

am interested in the difference a
healthy diet can make to how the
body functions.
I also enjoy anatomy and
physiology, learning how the body
works and moves. I am learning
something new every day – it’s
fantastic. The lecturers here are
great - they give you so much of
their time and support on a one to
one basis. Karen is so vibrant, so
full of life, when I leave her class I
feel so good. I write down every
word she says, I am like a sponge
soaking up all this information. I go
home and recite everything to my
family.
