HAPPY to live in

Good news for Ayrshire College students who live in Ayrshire : Troon has been crowned the second happiest place to live in the UK , in Rightmove ’ s Happy at Home Survey .
While Ayr is named as the second happiest town in Scotland – 17th across the UK - to live in . Almost 24,000 people in Great Britain took part in the survey , with results showing that living by the coast seems to do wonders for people ’ s happiness .
Rated on responses to a range of survey questions , more people in
Ayr said that they “ earn enough to live comfortably ” than any other town in the UK , alongside a high “ sense of belonging ” to the seaside burgh .
Towns were also rated as a result of responses to questions on services and amenities , with Ayr scoring high on essential local services , including schools .
Ayr boasts a wide variety of attractions and activities , including Ayr Racecourse , Heads of Ayr Farm Park , Robert Burns Birthplace Museum , the Gaiety Theatre and an Odeon Cinema .
It also plays host to the Scottish International Airshow along Ayr beach .
With a long esplanade , plenty to see and do , and a rich heritage , it ’ s no wonder Ayr is pleasing its residents .
On the back of this survey , I went out in Ayr and asked a few residents what they liked best about living in the town . They said :

It makes commuting really easy . I live in Ayr , but don ’ t work here . The variety of travel options to get to work from Ayr are great . It ’ s also got some great independent bars and restaurants . – Allan
I love being near the coast . Ayr has some great scenery that we often take for granted ; it ’ s got great coastal and park walks . – Susan
Ayr is great for those who like to golf ! There are three public courses in Ayr : Belleisle , Seafield and Dalmilling . I also support Ayr United , and like to attend the race days at Ayr Racecourse whenever I can . – Ian
