“So I say to you, ask, and it will be
given to you; seek, and you will find;
knock, and it will be opened to you.
For everyone who asks receives, and
he who seeks finds, and to him who
knocks it will be opened.
If a son asks for bread from any
father among you, will he give him a
stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he
give him a serpent instead of a fish?
Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer
him a scorpion?
If you then, being evil, know how
to give good gifts to your children,
how much more will your heavenly
Father give the Holy Spirit to those
who ask Him!” Luke 11.9-13
In other words, if your children ask
you for something good, would you
give them something bad? What
good would a snake, or a scorpion, or
a stone do for your children? None!
And even you, being evil, would
not give your child something evil.
So how can God be good, yet give
something bad to someone who
asks Him for something good?
Much more than an egg, bread,
fish or anything that man considers
important, God wants to give him
His Spirit, because nothing and no
one is more important than the
Holy Spirit.
What a person should do is seek, ask
and knock. For how can someone
receive if they do not ask, find if
they do not seek, or have the door
open if they do not knock? We have
to do our part and God will do His.
The disciple’s part was to wait in
Jerusalem, and God’s part was to fill
them with the Power from on High.
Behold, I send the Promise of My
Father upon you; but tarry in the city
of Jerusalem until you are endued
with power from on high. Luke 24.49
