MESSAGE OF FAITH
4 cups
of wine
Passover is approaching and most people
do not have the slightest idea what this
feast represents. As usual, this spiritual
celebration took on a commercial
connotation, with the sales of chocolate
eggs, which has nothing to do with its real
meaning.
In Hebrew, Passover is Pesach, which
means passage, so the people would
remember when God passed over the
houses of the children of Israel in Egypt,
delivering them from death.
When your children say to you, ‘What do
you mean by this service?’ you shall say, ‘It
is the Passover sacrifice of the Lord, who
passed over the houses of the children
of Israel in Egypt when He struck the
Egyptians and delivered our households.’
Exodus 12.26-27
The Jewish Passover celebration is a feast
that lasts all night long, where families
come together to eat, talk, recall their
history, sing, rejoice, and every two or
three hours, drink a cup of wine. They
drink four cups, each one with a different
spiritual meaning.
The first is called the cup of sanctification,
to remind them of when their people were
slaves in Egypt. The second is called the
cup of deliverance, which is to celebrate
the people’s deliverance from Egypt. The
third is called the cup of redemption. The
fourth and last is called the cup of praise.
On the night that the Lord Jesus was
arrested, before going to the Mount of
Olives, He was celebrating Passover. He
drank from the first 3 cups and left before
the feast ended. This is why He says: …
My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass
from Me! Nevertheless, not as I will, but as
You will. Matthew 26.39
This was the fourth cup, the cup of praise.
He knew that He was going to endure
suffering before being able to praise God.
This is why it was not possible to let this
cup pass from Him. His love for us is truly
great! God bless you!
