The ultimate goal of my research was to make a positive impact and
difference on student learning. These quotes are written exactly as
stated by the students during a mid-year reflection survey:
How did the art experience help you understand or connect to the
science lesson?
• “it helped us open our minds so we don’t only think there’s 1 kind
of scientist out there.”
• “…by connecting my favorite subject with my creative side.”
• “In the hands-on I remember it much more.”
• “Yes, it helps visualize, remember, and understand everything
you teach.”
• “It gives me something to connect with, it’s a great thing that
everyone should use.”
• “I say keep going with the Art & Science.” (conclusion in big
letters)
• “…helping me draw out what I’m thinking and what I’m saying in
my mind.”
Thanks to all my students and colleagues for their support during this
time of professional reflection and growth.
Jean Pelezo confesses that she didn’t like science in grade
school, because frankly, she doesn’t remember “doing” it. It
was not until her first year of teaching, when she became the
proud parent of “baby butterflies”, that her joy and passion for
science became metamorphized. As an educator for 27
years, she continues to discover exciting new ways to engage
her students to enjoy and “remember” science.
