When I first joined WCM-Q, I had one aim in mind and that was to become very academically talented. You could say my aim was one-dimensional, because I really didn’t understand a lot of things. I wanted to go to the best university in the world and I wanted to be a top student at this university. Now, that’s obviously very narrow and I realized as you grow older there are a lot of things that are more important. When I came to WCM-Q I realized I wasn’t as good as I thought, and that was really humbling. To think my British curriculum wasn’t as good as the American one, wow I never had that scale of comparison. I think extracurriculars help express who you are as an individual. You can have ten people who get straight As but somebody who does something individual to them like debate or working on a magazine, that represents more about who that person is. Cornell had those opportunities,

It is now my fourth year at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, and it is safe to say that every year has been an adventure of its own. Yearly, I see myself advancing and achieving certain goals both in my academic and personal life, and I owe that to my classmates and professors who made me overcome my fears. When I first came here I was feeling very homesick and overwhelmed in general. Luckily, I got the reassurance any new university student needs from my peers and professors who believed in me and I quickly recovered from this phase; then I started performing well academically. I was therefore able to easily join different clubs and to enjoy the variety of extracurricular activities WCM-Q has, such as Debate Club. Moreover, I was encouraged to become healthier and to exercise regularly by my peers, and so I did and I continue to do so. All in all, I believe that I am very lucky for being at the right place in the right time because I have met people who made me find the best in me, believe in it, and work on it.

The community is nice! You know everybody and everybody knows you. It challenges you to exceed your limits and it teaches you how to reconstruct the way you approach problems. I met a lot of amazing people here at Cornell.
