UG LOAD AND HAUL
remanufacture or replace worn-out components that could otherwise become a major financial burden in terms of equipment downtime , repair work and lost productivity . Sandvik rebuild kits , subassemblies and system modules ensure efficiency in our rebuild process , during which the latest product and safety updates are incorporated to help improve reliability , endurance and safety once your equipment is back in operation . Finally we reassemble , test and recommission your unit before returning it with updated parts and service manuals and schematics .”
“ Investing in a Sandvik rebuild is an investment in productivity , reliability and safety . When we bring your Sandvik loader or underground truck back to ‘ as new ’ condition , you ’ ll gain as many as 12,000 additional hours out of your original capital investment .”
Sandvik offers three different scopes of loading and hauling rebuilds . Life Extension sees the customer choose specific subsystems of greatest importance to be rebuilt and the group has defined four specific rebuild modules for Sandvik loaders : powertrain , front end , hydraulic and electrical .
Reborn is described as a full-scope rebuild , including all possible subsystems , product standardisations and safety updates . “ When completed in a certified Sandvik workshop , you can expect a similar service life as a new unit . Performance is also a full-scope rebuild , including all possible subsystems , product standardisations and safety updates , plus additional safety and productivity upgrades you choose from our offering .”
Dedicated technicians are trained to rebuild Sandvik loading and hauling equipment following a systematic process and supported by stringent environmental , health and safety ( EHS ) standards . A standardised approach ensures best possible rebuild quality and reduces turnaround time . Overall , Sandvik estimates up to 70 % cheaper operational costs ; up to 50 % average savings on lead time versus new equipment purchase or non- OEM repairers ; and up to 20 % increased reliability without new capital investment ; with up to 35 % less cost for Reborn or Performance than a new machine capital investment . The additional safety upgrades under a Performance rebuilds can include fire suppression , LED lights upgrade , safety railings , side and reverse cameras , and a recovery system to safely and efficiently recover a loader after a breakdown with the help of an electro / hydraulic recovery system . This system even functions if a loader loses battery power .
Sandvik Ground Engaging Tools ( GET ) can be fitted in strategic locations on buckets and bowls to prevent excessive wear of these crucial components . “ Worn buckets and bowls impact your overall equipment effectiveness and , as such , this upgrade also helps keep your buckets and bowls fully loaded .”
Sandvik axle upgrades can improve component endurance and reliability . “ Access components are offered through our Component Exchange program , which delivers rapid response and prompt availability designed to reduce your downtime . In large mines with high ambient temperatures , our Sandvik cooler upgrades significantly increase system cooling . This will extend the life of your components and boost equipment performance .”
Sandvik guarantees its work under a 12- month / 2,000-hour Sandvik warranty . With Life Extension models , the price of new is 15-25 %, with Reborn the price of new is 65 % and with Performance it is over 65 %
The Volvo Penta TAD1643VE-B is the TH663 engine and the companies worked together after Sandvik turned to Volvo Penta for help in replacing the existing 19-litre engines in its TH663 trucks . “ We ’ ve worked with Volvo Penta on other projects and have a close relationship with them ,” says Mark Ryan , Product Line Manager for trucks , loading and hauling at Sandvik ’ s mining division . “ We needed a high horse-power engine of the right size and class , which is robust and more cost effective to install and run than the previous engines .” The TAD1643VE-B offers a range of features , making it a compact , versatile and cost-effective off-road industrial powerhouse , which is the best in its emissions class . Features include a new watercooled turbo-charger , making the engine more dynamic and suitable for mobile applications ; and new fuel injectors and more efficient combustion , for improved fuel consumption and lower operating costs . It also has increased torque and torque curve : due to the turbocharger , extended torque curve allows for better performance at a wider range of rpm , making it more powerful , particularly at the lower end of rpm . The modern engine control unit ( ECU ) and same electrical interface as the latest Stage IV / Tier 4 final engine , enable ease of installation . It has a rated power of 565 kW at 1,900 rpm :
The new Scooptram ST7 Battery from Atlas Copco , part of a move away from just tethered cable options in underground electric load and haul the highest output per litre of displacement , “ making it the best 16-litre engine in its class .”
“ These are very harsh environments underground ,” says Ryan . “ The engines on our trucks need to withstand really heavy-duty cycles and continuously haul heavy loads up a steep ramp . This is a tough application , but we ’ ve noticed that with the better torque delivery of the Volvo Penta engine , our trucks can haul up the ramp faster now , compared to the previous 19- litre engines we used .”
Atlas Copco
Atlas Copco has launched its first battery driven product within the mining and underground segment . “ When it comes to safety for its operators , the Scooptram ST7 Battery has been developed to meet and exceed environmental standards and modern mining safety requirements . Traditionally , underground mobile equipment in the mining sector has relied on diesel engines which release emissions . Those emissions must be ventilated via costly systems . There are already electric scoops in underground mines , but these units have to be tethered via an electric cable . Thus , they have limited range and other operating challenges . As the trend for deeper mines continues and mining companies seek to gain more control over their operations , the Scooptram ST7 Battery answers this challenge with automated functions .” For example , the ability to control multiple loaders from a safe , remote location , planning and repeating the perfect production cycle .
“ Loaders and trucks consume about 80 % of the diesel fuel underground . The loaders are most often used in dead ends of the mine , which are the most difficult to ventilate . To make the greatest impact on work environment and ventilation costs , it was an obvious choice for Atlas Copco to launch a battery driven loader as our first product of this type ”, says Lars Senf , Vice President Marketing at Atlas Copco Underground Rock Excavation division .
The initiative to create battery operated equipment has been driven by new developments in battery technology . This has made it possible to create powerful and productive equipment with zero emissions . “ The Scooptram ST7 Battery is the first step in powering heavy , mobile equipment underground and in the future we might see a broader range of battery powered equipment including scoops , trucks and drills . All the obvious benefits of battery power add up to something that might not be obvious , like a reduced environmental footprint , higher worker satisfaction , and a better standing
