According to the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits , “ Nonprofit organizations promote the health and well-being of society . ( They ) provide people in all communities around the state with services and assistance to help meet needs unmet by government and the for-profit sector . Minnesota ’ s vibrant nonprofit sector is a steady source of economic growth in every region of the state , as well as a key partner in delivering public sector services . Nonprofits also contribute to job growth . They employ one out of every nine workers in the state . Nonprofit organizations are known for their contributions to their communities , focusing on volunteerism and making a difference .”
WHITE BEAR AREA EMERGENCY FOOD SHELF – CALENDAR OF EVENTS
March 24 : The WBAEFS will be celebrating its 40th Anniversary with a dinner at Kellerman ’ s Event Center in Downtown White Bear Lake . Information about the event and purchasing tickets will be available via our Facebook page ( link follows ). March is also Minnesota Food Share month , a campaign that informs communities about hunger and nutrition and helps drive food and financial donations for Food Shelves across Minnesota .
June 25 : In collaboration with Manitou Days , the WBAEFS will be hosting a Garden Party at its location in White
Bear Lake , 2 – 5 p . m . The event is free and open to all and includes food trucks , garden projects , games and health and wellness activities for all ages .
September ( date tbd ): The 6th Annual “ Gloria ’ s World Shortest Marathon ” will be in White Bear Lake and all proceeds from the event ’ s registrations and T-Shirt sales benefit the WBAEFS : $ 35 for adults ($ 15 for children under 12 ). The first 350 to register will receive a commemorative T-Shirt , snacks and coffee . Registrations can be completed online or by mail .
