Healthy Lifestyle is No Mystery to

Yannick Bisson, star of the hit CBC-TV series, Murdoch Mysteries, possesses an adventurous streak. Unlike the role he plays as the always dapper and suave Detective William Murdoch character on TV, Bisson in real life likes to get down and dirty – with his mountain bike. Racing down a mountain in British Columbia, Costa Rica or in Europe is a passion for Bisson.

Bisson’s spirit of adventure runs deep both professionally and personally. When asked what role he would love to play Bisson responds without hesitation, “I’ve always wanted to play James Bond.”

Growing up he was quite fond of spaghetti westerns, science fiction and James Bond films. As a kid, his father encouraged him to try a children’s acting workshop. Bisson was hooked and went on to a very successful acting career.

His TV credits include many popular series both in the United States and Canada including Sue Thomas: F.B. Eye, Falcon Beach, High Tide, Learning the Ropes, Soul Food, Flashpoint, The Listener and many more. He feels fortunate to have acted with everyone from Kevin Spacey (a favourite), Richard Dreyfuss, Della Reese, Olympia Dukakis and Rob Lowe to even being in the same film for the last appearance of the legendary Frank Sinatra in the movie Young at Heart.

Bisson could easily be cast as Bond with his heartthrob looks, peak physical condition and acting talent. Mountain biking, skiing and other exercising combined with proper diet keeps his body trim and looking healthy.

Despite his sense of adventure there is one thing he brings along whenever he travels to provide that bit of comfort.

“I have a foam roller that I use. It’s a medium-density foam roller, about eight inches in diameter – you see them sometimes in yoga classes. I use that to roll out the kinks from travelling. It’s indispensable, actually works and it weighs next to nothing.”

Bisson, 46, married to fellow actor/writer/producer Chantal Craig since 1990, has three grown daughters. Being a husband and father and adding in long shooting days, sometimes physically and mentally draining scenes and it’s a recipe for a much needed respite at a spa. Bisson is no stranger to spas or going to resorts to just chill.

“There are times where you like to go away and be warm and hit a bunch of spas and just be pampered and just completely decompress,” Bisson says. “You lock yourself into a resort, guaranteed sun, fun and mixed drinks.”
