Southerners are serious about their family recipes . And our Mamaw ’ s homemade yeast rolls were legendary . You might think that your great-grandmother made the best rolls but we are sorry to have to inform you that you are sorely mistaken . Growing up , when we heard our dad say that “ the South shall rise again ” we knew he was really only referring to Mamaw ’ s rolls . To this day he still teases our mom about the fact that she ate 19 of them when he brought her home to meet the family prior to their engagement .

As little girls , we would sit on Mamaw ’ s front porch making mud “ pies ” as the mouth-watering aroma of those rolls baking in the oven wafted out through the screen door . Visiting her home in Arkansas made us feel connected to something larger than ourselves . Even though we spent our growing up years in non-Southern states , the memories of our time there kept us rooted in a heritage which transcended state lines and kept us hearing many a “ bless her heart ” as we navigated the rocky waters of adolescence .
