This piece exists, on so many levels because of its origin, as its own genre with a unique theatrical approach and style that tells the stories theatrically and also autobiographically. – DAVID GALLO it’s me doing a play about August Wilson. This piece exists, on so many levels because of its origin, as its own genre with a unique theatrical approach and style that tells the stories theatrically and also autobiographically. And so the process for me was finding permission to make what I felt was in many ways a personal expression of what the work over the years meant to me. I had to insert more of myself, I was allowed to go in there and comment on some things that I never felt was mine to do. What I brought to it – my own personal baggage – I think was both a hindrance and a help. It took a while to put a pencil on the page. Now I’m very happy. A young August Wilson. Signature: What are you most looking forward to in delving into this piece? CR: I have a very interesting challenge in front of me that I don’t think a lot of costume designers have had. I’m going to costume Ruben to be August Wilson within Leon Addison Brown and January LaVoy in Two Trains Running, 2006. 8
