Shenandoah’s Division of Physical Therapy (SUPT) celebrated the accomplishments of 88 new doctors of physical therapy at its annual SUPT Hooding Ceremony in August. Dunn School of Pharmacy supporter and alumna Laura LaFontaine White ’70 and her daughter, Pat Sharrow, opened Battletown Pharmacy in Berryville, Va., in September. White and her husband, the late Eugene V. White, owned White’s Pharmacy, also in Berryville, for 43 years. White revolutionized the pharmacy profession, and as a tribute, their pharmacy was recreated at the Bernard J. Dunn School of Pharmacy. Battletown Pharmacy is located at 33 W. Main St. in Berryville. The Bernard J. Dunn School of Pharmacy, in partnership with Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) and the George Washington University, hosted the fifth annual Genomic Opportunities for Girls in Research Labs (GO GIRL) program this summer. GO GIRL is an educational outreach program designed to provide young women with a unique opportunity for a hands-on laboratory experience in molecular biology and genomics.The four-day summer program teaches rising 10th-, 11th- and 12thgrade girls from LCPS about genetic fingerprinting, gene expression and genetic modification of organisms. GO GIRL is funded by a grant to LCPS from Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Third-year Pharm.D. student Lily Nguyen was one of four students selected from a nationwide pool of more than 100 applicants to be named an Express Scripts Scholar by the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP). PERFORMANCES Artist-in-Residence and Chair of the Keyboard Division John O’Conor On Sept. 28, longtime Bernard J. Dunn School of Pharmacy supporter and former Shenandoah University Alumni Board member Laura LaFontaine White ’70 and her daughter, Patricia White Sharrow, celebrated the opening of their new pharmacy, Battletown Pharmacy, in Berryville, Va. Sharrow will serve as president and head pharmacist while Amber Darr '01 will fulfill the role of relief pharmacist. Upon graduation, William "Bo" Spires, a fourth-year Shenandoah University pharmacy student, will be employed full time. Spires, a recipient of the Eugene B. White scholarship in pharmacy and the Kmart Scholarship for Excellence in Community Pharmacy, has been involved in the project since its inception and plans to assume a larger role in the company in the future.
