Insider tips on Homer by our friend Veronica Padula:

There are a few places in Alaska that have a very special place in my heart and are worth mentioning for sure! Homer is one of my favorite towns in Alaska. I think I feel a certain nostalgia when I go there because it reminds me of where I grew up. The people are wonderful and welcoming, the scenery is unmatched, and I'm just always in my happy place when I visit. My friend Maria has a bed and breakfast in Homer called Majestic View (https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g31009-d579750-Reviews-Maria_s_Majestic_View_Bed_Breakfast-Homer_Alaska.html) that I would totally recommend to anyone visiting Homer. The other thing about Homer is that the main offices for the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge are found there. AMNWR covers the many islands in the Bering Sea where I work on seabirds, so it is special in that way as well. They have a beautiful visitors' center, and this wonderful bakery called Two Sisters (http://twosistersbakery.net/) is right down the hill from it. I'm only slightly addicted to the chocolate bread at Two Sisters. In addition to Homer, all the islands that are covered by AMNWR are spectacular and mind-blowing. A little difficult and/or expensive to get to, but worth the exploration if you want to get a taste of Bering Sea life :)
