• Ensure the approval process for teacher preparation programs
is connected to the State Board of Education Teacher Training
Program Report Card by providing the Board of Examiners with
the datasets used in the report card. Create a process by which
these teacher preparation programs are provided meaningful
feedback and recommendations for improvement.
• Professionalize the approval process for teacher training programs
by having a smaller but better trained group of evaluators serve
on the Board of Examiners. The Board of Examiners should give
particular emphasis to National Council for the Accreditation
of Teacher Education program Standard #2 “Assessment System
and Unit Evaluation,” using the aforementioned teacher training
program report card as a minimum standard.
• Provide case studies of the best ways higher education
institutions are partnering with local districts to
train teachers. Ensure these case studies
are widely distributed to district and
higher education leadership.
