Ports & Freezone News Now’, DP World has committed to creating the most productive, efficient, and safe trade solutions, well aligned with Expo 2020’s focus on innovation and its subthemes of Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability. The global trade enabler is also an active supporter of startup organisations, both locally and internationally, complementing similar Expo 2020 initiatives. According to the WTO, global trade was worth $18.5 trillion in 2014. The Middle East, Africa and Asia together accounted for just $6.904 trillion of that total. The three regions have, however, experienced rapid growth. The World Bank estimates that gross national income per capita in Sub-Saharan Africa grew by almost 240% between 2002 and 2014. The UAE was the world’s 11th largest exporter in 2014, and has firm plans to reduce oil’s contribution to national GDP to less than the current 30%. On 21 November 2015 the UAE announced the details of the Emirates Science, Technology and Innovation Higher Policy. This is a US $ 82 billion plan to foster a knowledge economy, and prepare the UAE for a world beyond oil. 28 June 2016 KIZAD LAUNCHES PHASE 2 OF LOGISTICS PARK • Kizad Logistics Park Phase 2 to comprise of 64 units • Kizad Logistics Park will house a total of 105 pre-built warehouses • Special lease rates for a limited time A bu Dhabi Ports, the master developer, operator and manager of ports and Khalifa Industrial Zone (Kizad) in the Emirate, has announced the launch of the second phase of Kizad Logistics Park (KLP) – Non Free Zone warehousing. KLP is comprised of high-quality warehouses in Kizad’s logistics cluster and is set to become one of the leading warehousing centres in the region. Following the success of KLP Phase 1, Kizad has started construction on the second phase of the project. 64 high-quality modular warehouse units are set to be handed over to tenants by Q3 of this year (2016) bringing the total number of units to 105 covering an area of 118,965 square metres. Commenting on this new development Mana Mohammed Saeed Al Mulla, Chief Operating Officer, Kizad said, “Kizad’s development follows a demand-driven approach; responding to the needs of the market and designing flexible solutions accordingly. The 41 warehouses in Phase 1 were 83 per cent leased prior to construction being completed and 100 per cent leased a few months after that. Since then the need for more high-quality warehousing units has encouraged us to start building Phase 2 of KLP.”
