SciArt Magazine - All Issues February 2016 | Page 4

Letter from the Editor Dear readers, It’s 2016 and the science–based art movement is growing daily. I see this growth in the number of events happening here in NYC, around the country, and the world that are using artistic means to explore scientific topics. Last week brought me to the American Museum of Natural History for a planetarium show on the sonification and visualization of earthquakes, and next week will bring me to Washington D.C.’s National Academy of Science for their monthly D.C. Art Science Evening Rendezvous (DASER) meeting, this month exploring the themes of ‘Ideation, Translation, and Realization’. For our first issue of 2016, we re–examine Frank Stella’s work with chaos theory in mind, explore the blurring of boundaries between the domestic and natural through the art of Dana Sherwood, learn how dance can bring life to neural mechanisms in the work of Jody Oberfelder, consider how technology can make us question what is ‘real’ with Ken Goldberg, see how Imagine Science Films is supporting the artistic visualization of science, and more. Thank you once again, and always, for your readership. Sincerely, Julia Buntaine, Founder & Editor-in-Chief 4 Editor-in-Chief Julia Buntaine Managing Editor Neel V.
