SC Campaign Annual Report 2012-2013 December 2013 | Page 3

CELEBRATE OUR 20th with staff of the SC Campaign T o describe the first 20 years of the SC Campaign’s progress in South Carolina goes beyond amazing and ventures into the realm of the (nearly) impossible. It’s hard to believe that since the inception of our organization, teen birth rates in our state have decreased by 47%. This is truly one of our state’s greatest success stories of the last two decades. The Honorees BlueCross BlueShield of SC Suzan Boyd Forrest Alton What makes the story all that more powerful is the sheer volume of people that have played a role in making it happen. I can’t help but think about the small group of visionaries who sat in a room more than 20 years ago during the start-up phase of the SC Campaign. Beginning with that group, and continuing over the last 20 years, we have benefited from the involvement of more than 100 board members, nearly that same number of staff, and literally thousands of people at the local level working to protect our state’s young people. While you will enjoy reading this year’s iteration of our Annual Report that focuses mainly on the accomplishments of the past 12 months, I also hope you will help us celebrate the progress and accomplishments of our first 20 years throughout 2014! Be sure to visit our website throughout the year as we will be highlighting many of the individual, organizational and community-level champions that have helped us succeed. You should also be sure to mark your calendar for May 7th – the pinnacle event of our anniversary celebration! As always, my sincere thanks to each of you for all that you do to support our efforts. None of this would be possible without you. Joy Campbell Rev. Don Flowers Judi Gustafson Hayne Hipp SuSu and George Johnson Michelle Nimmons Palmetto Health The Honorable Greg Ryberg M.
