gregations in the Dubuque area: the Presentations, Franciscans and Dominicans. The fall retreat focuses on the process of discernment, and during the spring retreat we travel to each of our motherhouses, discussing various aspects of religious life and the charism of each community. Our catchy title for these events, “Dubuque’s Got Sisters” (DGS) has now been adopted in many cities . . . with the appropriate city name, of course! These DGS discernment weekends have been well-received by the women who participate in them. Emily, from the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) in Cedar Falls, shared: “While spending time with the BVM sisters, I was amazed at how much life and joy you all have. I think there is a stereotype about religious life that it is perpetually quiet and serious, and that was
