PROFESSIONAL ALLIANCE SPOTLIGHT Glass Heritage, LLC Glass Heritage, LLC, aspires to “preserve the history and tradition of excellence in stained glass.” And this is just what John Watts, Adrian English, and Pat Rogers do. The three friends started Glass Heritage in Davenport, IA, in January of 2004, and since then the company has expanded from a small firm that creates glass artworks to one with a staff and on-site crew that works nationwide and specializes in restoration and preservation of stained glass. The principals met when Rogers took a job at a glass shop where Watts and English were working. She developed a love of the medium, and her background in textiles made for an easy transition into glasswork. She enrolled at the Campbell Center for Historic Preservation, in Mount Carroll, IL, where she studied stained glass restoration, and she now serves as the primary preservationist at Glass Heritage. Though a different material, the basic understanding of color and design that Rogers got from textile work translated directly to glass. In addition to the beauty of glasswork, she notes a more profound element of her trade – the preservation of history. Rogers adds that everyone at the firm is “aware of the historic value of each window we restore. Even if the windows came from a catalog studio 100 years ago, they’re literally not replaceable. You can repair and restore them, but once they are lost they’re lost forever.” The value that Rogers places on each window she works on shows clearly in the quality of work the firm produces. Watts, English, and Rogers are very much involved in the company. In fact, the importance of owner involvement is one of the firm’s strengths.
