UPDATE on Partners: Texas Office damage reports for each congregation, and architects from across the country have conducted comprehensive architectural assessments to help prioritize the repair efforts. Through our relationship with the Galveston Recovery Fund, eight congregations received $10,000 each to help pay for building repair costs, and six of the ten congregations were featured as part of the Galveston Historical Foundation’s annual Sacred Places tour this past February. Currently, Partners is working with the congregations through our New Dollars/New Partners training program; Module I was hosted by Reedy Chapel A.M.E Church in March. Galveston Update On September 13, 2008, Hurricane Ike made its final landfall over Galveston, TX, with a Category 5-equivalent storm surge and winds of at least 110 mph. Soon after, at the request of the Texas Historical Commission, Preservation Texas, and the Galveston Historical Foundation, Partners’ Texas Office committed to working with congregations impacted by the storm, and dedicated funding and resources to assist them. In January 2009, Partners announced planning grants for ten congregations to help them assess the damage and determine how to proceed with repairs and restoration.
