Jade Corkill is not only a world champion heeler, he’s a husband, father and former rancher.
Growing up in Fallon, Nevada with his parents Bruce and Mitzi Corkill and sister Bailey, Jade’s
roping had humble beginnings. Heeling is a necessity on the ranch, and he got his start at a
young age by doctoring calves with his mom in the feedlot and in the pasture. Currently, Jade
calls Stephenville, Texas home. We had the chance to visit with Jade as he prepares for the 4th
of July rodeo run. We asked him some not-so-common questions and got to know the champ a
little better. We hope you enjoy this interview as much as we did.
RF: What do you miss about being a kid?
JC: I miss not having the responsibilities I do
nowadays. I also miss getting to sleep in the back
seat on the way to every roping or rodeo!
RF: What do you remember doing every 4th of
July before Rodeo?
JC: I don't really ever remember a 4th of July
where we didn't go to some sort of roping.
RF: What are three things you see as beautiful?
JC: My grandmothers, my wife and boys, and a
GT4 around two feet.
RF: How do you like to comb your hair when
you’re not wearing a hat?
JC: I hardly ever go anywhere without a hat, but
when I do, it's not really controllable enough to
comb.
RF: What characteristics do you like the best
about yourself?
JC: I’m not sure really, but I guess one characteristic
I like about myself is that I enjoy doing things to
help other people and make them happy.
RF: Which characteristics do you feel you
need to work on?
JC: I feel like one characteristic I need to work
on is not getting so mad over roping. I'm getting
better, but I think but that’s an everyday battle.
RF: Do you prefer a cold can or a glass bottle
in your hand?
JC: Definitely a glass bottle in my hand.
