PAGE 2 ROCKNATION ISSUE 21 Interview by Tom Mathers Rocknation: Hello Scream Maker and welcome to Rocknation. Your band just released a CD called “Livin’ in the Past’’ on Perris Records. Please tell us about what each of your songs is about. Scream Maker: Hi! It’s always very hard to speak about your own lyrics but let’s try. “In The Nest of Serpents” - It’s easy to say that one should learn from one’s mistakes but we all know that we make the same mistakes over and over again. And this song is about those mistakes that could affect our lives in a really ugly way. When you build something, you don’t want it to be destroyed by you weakness but in reality our “little” vices are able destroy big things we built, family, companies, all sorts of relationships. We all have snakes in our heads telling us to do this or that for the sake of our whim or pleasure or greed. We listen to them and then. “Glory for the fools” - The song is about the people who search for easy life, who are willing to give up high ideas or simply decency for the temporal advantages and the illusion of the comfortable life. They think that, say, consumption of the life is the only purpose of our existence, they are fooled by vision that actually we are not morally responsible for anything. In the end, when they find out that they were wrong, all is lost. “Fever” - It’s a very positive rock’n’roll song. We all should realize we have the inner strength to face all sorts of the difficulties that life puts us through. Music is a way to help us discover that strength. “Livin’ in the Past” - This song have two related meanings. The literal one is a story of a man who lost the love of his life and now tries to pull himself together. It’s not easy. The more time passes, the more he tends to idealize the past. The more time passes, the brighter are colors he sees it in. The second meaning is more universal - we can idealize the past, long for the things that ceased to exist and are long gone, it’s natural, but we have to live on, we have to learn to live with what we have and do it the best way we can. “All my life” - To be honest, here lyrics are very simple and not very philosophical. You find yourself in a toxic relationship and at some point you decide to end it. But doing this requires announcing it to your partner. The song conveys a message that there are so many great people and opportunities in life that subduing yourself to someone who is exploiting you emotionally is just pointless. “Angel” - It’s the only real love song on our album. It’s about a situation in which you just can’t imagine the world would functioning without your loved one. The sun wouldn’t shine, No way! It is also not very power metal song, it’s like metallized Journey crossed with Whitesnake or Rainbow from their AOR period :) At least, that was our intention. “Spacestone” - Pure fantasy. If world is going to end tomorrow, how important are our present lives, our businesses, our plans? It’s true that they are in that case of no importance. All loses value then. But what to do when the end is inevitable? “Stand Together” - Human kind had Alexander The Great, Christopher Columbus, Copernicus, so many more great minds and brave people. What do we have now? A societies consisting of cowards not able to think big, not interested in discovering the new, not pursuing for the worthy. The new ideas are now almost only of technological nature and have only one purpose: to make our lives easier, but easier is not better. “Confessions” - We always wanted to record a song that could be placed in the soundtrack to some action movie. This is it. Song starts with a murder of a woman and the lyrics are written from the perspective of the heartless and cruel serial killer. We didn’t want to do the apology of the evil, so – to make sure that you all understand – remember, guys: murdering people is always a bad idea! (continued on page 3)
