Nightscape
This work is a collaborative piece
between the artist and a traditional fanmaking master. Using the traditional motif
of the fan, the artist tried to reinterpret the
meaning of true-view landscape painting,
through which painters of the Joseon Dynasty
sought not to just describe the look of nature,
but to portray the essence of nature itself.
Koreans traditionally painted landscapes
onto fans and the artist, reversely, used the
fans to build a landscape, thus juxtaposing
the relationship of fans and landscape.
JeeYoung Lee includes herself in each
piece. However, these photographs do not
look like self-portraits, rather an exploration
of the artist’s emotions.

Gece Manzarası
Sanatçı ve geleneksel bir yelpaze ustası
arasında gerçekleştirilen ortak bir çalışma
olan bu eser, Kore’ye özgü geleneksel yelpaze
motifini kullanıyor. Bu teknikle sanatçı, gerçekçi manzara resimlerinin anlamını yeniden
yorumlamaya çalışmış. Joseon Hanedanlığı
dönemindeki ressamlar, resimlerinde sadece
doğanın görünüşünü tasvir etmekle kalmayıp
aynı zamanda doğanın ruhunu da resmetmeye çalışıyorlardı. Ayrıca kültürel bir gelenek
olarak Kore’de yelpazelerin üzerine manzaralar resmedilir. Sanatçı ise burada tam
tersini yaparak yelpazelerle bir manzara inşa
etmeye çalışmış ve yelpazeler ile manzara
arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemiş.
JeeYoung Lee, her eserinde yer alıyor.
Ancak bu fotoğraflar, bir otoportreden çok
sanatçının kendi duygularını keşfe çıktığı kişisel bir yolculuğun en can alıcı kareleri gibi
görünüyor.
