What types of
sunscreen do you
recommend we use?
Ne tip güneş kremleri kullanmalıyız?
Sunscreens are organic and inorganic materials that can be found
in the form of lotion, spray, gel or cream and it helps to absorb, reflect
or disperse the UV rays reaching the skin. Chemical sun protectors,
specifically, are organic and absorb high energy UV rays. Physical
protectors, however, are inorganic and either disperse or reflect the
light. For those with sensitive skin, children and those who work
under heavy exposure to sun, physical protectors are recommended.
However, these have several cosmetic disadvantages since they can
discolor the clothes, have possible comedogenic effects and their
opaque image. Physical protectors are grinded into very small
particles in order to be more cosmetically acceptable and released
to market in a form that is more transparent as colloidal suspensions.
Thanks to developments in nanotechnology in recent years,
sunscreen products now include such powerful chemicals as zinc,
oxide and titanium dioxide particles.
When recommending a sunscreen, one must take into consideration
the skin color and type of the person, especially for those who have
conditions such as polymorphic light eruption and solar urticarial.
No matter what, all sunscreens must have UVA protection, broad
spectrum and high sun protection factor (SPF). Working conditions
and intensity of sunlight in the region must also be considered and
we have to watch out for the danger of allergic reactions against the
materials inside the sunscreen. In this regard, your dermatologist
can help you and you must be sure of the ingredients in the product
during its purchase. Products should have UVB protection along with
broad spectrum and at least rate SPF 15.
