O sentido da morte em Blaise Pascal

RESUMO:
Qual é o sentido da morte para Blaise Pascal? Saber o sentido implica conhecer o
significado da morte, sua relevância e as consequências comportamentais do
conhecimento desta ideia. Para este estudo, nosso objeto será alguns fragmentos da obra
Pensées (136, 434, 308, 933 e 418) e Écrits sur la grace. Sustentamos que o sentido da
morte para Pascal não é unívoco, mas plural, já que em cada texto a morte assume um
sentido. Nosso objetivo será mostrar a abrangência do sentido da morte no autor
francês, destacando o sentido da morte na teoria do pecado original, na psicologia
profunda do divertissement, frente à certeza da dissolução iminente, para os homens
representantes das três ordens de coisas (corpo, da razão e do coração) e, por fim, no
fragmento da Aposta.

ABSTRACT:
What is the meaning of death for Blaise Pascal? Knowing the meaning entails knowing
the meaning of death, its relevance and the behavioral consequences of having
knowlegde of this idea. For this study, our object will be some fragments of
the Pensées work (136, 434, 308, 933 and 418) and Écrits sur la grace. We argue that the
meaning of death for Pascal is not univocal but plural, as in each text, death takes a
different sense. Our goal will be showing the scope of the meaning of death for the
French author, highlighting the sense of death in the theory of the original sin, the deep
psychology of the divertissement, against the certainty of imminent dissolution, for
representatives of the three orders of things (the flesh, the spirit and the will) and,
finally, the fragment of 'Pascal's Wager'.
